FOCUSED TOPIC OF THE WEEK
Skoll Forum Threads
We're delighted to share a summary of the discussions and insights from the recent Skoll Forum 2024 in Oxford. The event, attended by Eszter Fillipinyi, TAI´s Deputy Director revolved around empowering change through kindness, transparency, accountability, empathy, and collaboration. Here's a snapshot of the key takeaways:
Former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, reminded us that kindness and humility are strengths, not weaknesses, especially in politics.
Discussions centered on reinvigorating democratic systems by supporting local movements, strategic communication, and protecting democratic norms during times of crisis.
There was a strong emphasis on the need to empower women and minority groups, both in decision-making roles and through philanthropic support to overcome systemic barriers.
Strategies to combat disinformation and promote transparency within the information ecosystem were explored, including tailored policies and skills development for critical thinking.
Sonia Guajajara, Brazil's first-ever minister for indigenous people, highlighted the importance of empowering indigenous communities as guardians of the environment and advocates for climate justice.
Read Ezster´s full thoughts on how the forum emphasized the urgency of channeling support and resources to grassroots movements, activists, and civil society organizations to drive accountability and collaboration for a better future.
